Sanne

The first kesa was only a costume called Sanne.
The word “kesa”, which is used today, refers to the outermost garment worn by monks as one of the robes.
On the other hand, the robes of Shakyamuni Buddha’s time were called ‘sanne’, ‘andae’ worn from the waist down, and ‘uttara monk’ equivalent to casual clothes. So)”, and “Sogyari”, a formal dress that is worn over the left shoulder like the prototype of the kesa that is called in modern Japan.
Today, they are classified as Gojo kesa, Shichijo kesa, and Kujo kesa or Oi, respectively.
